Juror’s Favorite for AIA CANstruction 2016
Published: April 21, 2016
At the recent AIA Charlotte Architecture Month Social, the Morris-Berg Architects and Edifice Construction team received the top prize for their CANstruction competition entry.
CANstruction is an AIA event hosted annually by AIA Charlotte to raise money and canned goods for local food banks. Each team is made up of local architects, contractors, and engineers, which together design and build sculptures made entirely of canned foods. At the end of the exhibition, all of the structures are disassembled and the cans are donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Morris-Berg Architects teamed with Edifice Inc. to construct a food truck sculpture that represents a growing Charlotte culture. Our sculpture was nearly 5 feet tall, 6 feet wide and had over 2,500 cans to make the food truck. Our offices worked together for over a month to make our design unique, with a Taco Seasoning Awning and the utilization of labels to make a fork, knife and spoon logo on the back. Playing off the food truck theme, we incorporated our motto “Driving Out Hunger” into our food truck display.
Our team was happy to take home 2 awards – Juror’s Favorite and People’ Choice.
Aside from the hard work from our team, we also could not have done it without the support of our sponsors. Special Thanks to Shaw Group, Mannington Commercial, TPM, Armstrong Flooring, Daltile, Wurthwood Group and other Anonymous Donors.
