Concord Municipal Parking Deck

Explosive growth and inadequate facilities were the impetus for the initial 1999 planning study of Municipal Facilities completed by Morris-Berg Architects for the City of Concord.

As a result of the study, the Parking Deck, located on Cabarrus Avenue, became the first phase of the Municipal facilities expansion. The structure was designed to complement the existing architecture of historic Downtown Concord, and incorporates traditional elements including exterior lights to match existing street lighting. The deck accommodates 344 cars, and includes retail space fronting Cabarrus Avenue to enhance the streetscape.

The parking deck makes maximum use of City-owned property, surrounding an existing water tower and building to maximum allowable site limits. Early involvement with neighboring property Owners resulted in cooperative agreements that allowed for maximum efficiency in the site plan.

The North Carolina Main Street Program named the Concord Municipal Parking Deck as “Best Public Improvement” for their State award program.
