Firm Leadership Transition

Morris-Berg Architects has promoted Matthew S. Hart, AIA, NCARB to President, effective January 1, 2023. Since joining the firm in 2018, Matthew has led the firm’s business development and marketing strategies, establishing key relationships with new clients while ensuring continued satisfaction of repeat clients. In early 2022, Matthew coordinated the efforts of the firm’s Strategic Plan to ensure the firm is positioned for future success and growth. His work is rooted in education and public-facing projects, aligning with the firm’s rich history. In addition to his leadership role in the office, Matthew served as President of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2022, is Chairman of the Belmont Planning and Zoning Board and an active member of Construction Professional Network (CPN). Aside from his professional passions, Matthew enjoys the outdoors, serving his church and spending time with his family.

Todd Berg, AIA remains active in the firm as Chairman of the Board, overseeing high level executive decisions and mentoring the next generation of leaders and architects in the company. Todd started his architectural career with the firm in 1984 and began his role as an owner with Ralph Brice and Keith Morris in 1998. Upon the untimely death of Keith Morris in 2013, Todd assumed sole ownership of the company. Since that time, his leadership guided the firm to financial stability following the Great Recession, elevated the firm’s respect within the design community for well-designed, public projects across the Charlotte Region, and established a transition plan to ensure Morris-Berg is positioned for future success. Todd is an active member of CPN of NC and AIA Charlotte, having served as its President in 2014. Under his leadership, the firm was recognized with AIA Charlotte’s Firm of the Year award in 2014.

We’ve Moved!

After an extensive quest to find a new office, Morris-Berg is thrilled to unveil its fresh location at 1018 Jay Street, Suite 130, Charlotte, NC 28208. Collaborating with @Jll on our office search was a delightful experience. Jim Thorp’s decades of expertise combined with Jaime Boast’s dynamic approach ensured prompt responses and seamless negotiations.

Our heartfelt appreciation extends to @thirdandurban for their instrumental role in developing the vibrant @lowertuck district in West Charlotte. We’re eager to contribute to the growth of this flourishing part of town. A big shoutout goes to @lilesconstructioncompany, without whose assistance we wouldn’t have settled into this sleek new space. Paul Liles and Dallin Hales worked tirelessly to consider every detail, and the end result speaks volumes. The design of this new space was a collaborative effort by the entire Morris-Berg team. It perfectly aligns with our Strategic Plan, fostering a lively and inclusive atmosphere that’s open, inviting, and nurturing for all. Glass walls not only usher in natural light but also foster a sense of togetherness. A special round of applause to our staff for their exceptional efforts in making our office a true marvel to behold!

Chris Muryn joins Morris-Berg as Architect and Urban Designer

Chris Muryn, AIA, CNU joins the Morris-Berg team with over 15 years of experience in the field of Architecture and Urban Design. After graduating in 2008 from the University of Kentucky with a BArch, he found his way to Charlotte to attend UNC Charlotte. In 2010 he graduated with a Master’s in Urban Design. Chris’ design interests range from how a group of buildings fit into a landscape in master planning all the way down to how those buildings are detailed in Construction Documents. Chris has worked on a large variety of projects for retail, grocers, hospitality, office, healthcare, parking structures, CCRC, and mixed use clients. His mom was a middle school math and history teacher growing up. It is a tradition he was able to carry on as an Adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte in the Fall of 2019. He believes that all great places tell a story. That story builds as the buildings support the landscape and the landscape supports the building. He looks forward to finding the stories to tell in all his work as we build up and continue traditions of learning and community services.
